About:

Muncie, IN - 1990 to 1994.

Crankpin formed after Case Yellow disbanded at the end of 1989. Crankpin went on to become a popular original band in Muncie with some notoriety around Indiana. Crankpin was one of the first Muncie bands of the post-No Bar era to break out of Muncie and play many of its shows in places like Indianapolis; Louisville, KY; Columbus, OH; Cincinnati, OH; Chicago, IL; and Champaign, IL and all over Indiana. Crankpin played with notable bands like Lungfish, The Laughing Hyenas, Vampire Lesbos, Antenna, Big Wheel and Samiam.

The band formally recorded about 30 songs in its lifespan, mostly with Mass Giorgini at Sonic Iguana in Lafayette, releasing three cassettes, and a 7-inch record and appearing on a number of compilations.

  • Hey Joseph "6" Dixon ... It was such a pleasure having you in the band. I had no idea that you were depressed. I was so wrapped up in myself and my anger. Your jokes totally cracked Sean and I up all the time. You made the band so much Fun! You are a rocking drummer and a great guy! I hope things are going awesome for you these days. So many great memories! My guitar playing was reckless as well. Crazy thinking back to the "old" days now that I'm a middle aged guy on my 47th birthday with a wife and 4 kids!

  • OMG... My time, my tempo, my fills, my crazy Primus/Dave Weckl snare was so out of control! I had to be the last resort drummer or something. Pete was a killer. Pete was like a real drummer. I was more of a performer, maybe? I think I had a nervous recklessness that was exciting.
    OMG... I am so dumb.

  • OMG! I so need to go to bed but I can't stop listening to these songs! Man, these times kept me alive, literally. I was so depressed. I was so sad. I hated myself so badly. I really cared about this band, the music, and the people in the scene. This is such a lift for me tonight.

  • I'll never forget joining a band in Muncie so I can find out how to make my way into Crankpin. I came from playing crossover thrash/core and Crankpin was so different. It was so right. It was an absolute privilege to be a part of the band.

Great times! Great songs! But most importantly, great friends.

  • I saw the CRANKPIN serveral times when I was an exchange student in Indy in 1992/93, and loved them every single time. I still have their '92 cassette EP, and still love it! <3

  • These songs are definitely way more to me than nostalgia. They gave me hope and promise that there was indeed something beyond the small confines of my central Indiana town. I am glad that I was a part of this scene. Nothing has ever even come close. Such a beautiful time of my life that I wouldn't trade for anything. Yes, Muncie WILL be in me forever.

  • Thank you! I've been trying to find this stuff for ten years. Somebody stole these tapes from my car back then.
