Family Tree’s first annual fundraising event was held in mid-December 2018. Quiet Music, Dance Music: A Musical Family Gathering was hosted by the board and close partners at Pioneer in Fountain Square and was an all-ages event. It was a Community Award & Fundraising Party that will recur annually. The event was a celebration to encourage continued efforts that nurture local artists, preserve Indiana’s original music legacy, and build a shared community of music makers and music lovers.

Attendees enjoyed live music performances by: Allison Victoria, Eric Salazar, Mr. Kinetik, and DJ Kyle Long. The Music Community Leader, MFT’s Acorn Award, was presented to Oreo Jones for his contributions to local music as an artist and numerous other projects including past board membership, work with Big Car, organizing Chreece, work with Well-Done Marketing, SmallBox, and more. Oreo Jones has enriched and continues to enrich the local music scene. His contributions are changing the perception of the community.

Also honored at this year-end event were MFT founder Jeb Banner and past MFT Executive Directors Jon Rogers and Erin Jeeter, as well as Board Chair Ben Leslie who organized the Musical Family Gathering event as he phased out of the role in 2018.

MFT also extends a special thank you to our regular supporters and partners including Boardable, Chreece, Well-Done Marketing, SmallBox, Upland, Pioneer, Square Cat Vinyl, Hi-Fi/Lo-Fi, and many others. We’re happy and fortunate to have such a supportive local community of music lovers who help the organization continue to thrive as we look forward.

There are many exciting things ahead in 2019 so please stay tuned. Watch for upcoming events and updates this year as MFT sponsors more events, continues our educational programming, and progresses with curation efforts.
