Just in time for the summer heat comes this blistering debut single from Los Angeles-based musician Guy Friend. Born Matthew Shawn Bailey, this boy broke our hearts by moving from Lafayette to Los Angeles in 2012. In that time he’s mastered two things: his jump shot and making skuzzy punk rock sound real, real sweet.
“Hit and Run,” the second of two videos Bailey dropped this week, blurs together the smarmy vocals of Devo, the glorious fuzz of Thee Oh Sees, and the frenetic, fucked up pace of Northwest Indiana standouts the Coneheads. Plus, it comes with a nostalgia-inducing video chocked full of Speed Racer cartoons, which is guaranteed to keep you grinning even if you still feel bummed out he left.
