Posted December 28, 2016 by Taylor Peters

  1. "Look at that Love" - Ed Johnson-Ott
  2. "Watch Me Bleed" - David Barajas
  3. "Trouble No More" - ToeKnee Tea
  4. "Set on the Sun" - Washington and Out
  5. "Drive" - Sabbabanks
  6. "Autograph (I'm Gone)" - Kaleidostars
  7. "A Story of Nashville" - Oblio
  8. "New Bazaar" - Verdant Vera
  9. "Fine Suit" - Quin
  10. "Butterball" - Archer Avenue

Man. I sure didn't think 2016 would end this fast. Feels like it only just started, honestly, but I know that's not true.

Lots of good stuff in this playlist but I want to shout out one song in particular: "Look at that Love" by Ed Johnson-Ott. You might know Johnson-Ott by way of his writing gig at NUVO, where he's been reviewing movies for a while (that's where I knew him from), and you might be surprised to find out that he's an excellent musician and his solo album entitled Potential Collector's Item is too good to really legitimately be fair to the rest of us, on account of how good his film writing over at NUVO is.

But wait, there's more: turns out Johnson-Ott was in one of my favorite older MFT archive bands The Future, whose song "Indianapolis" I low key have stuck in my head about 60% of the time when I'm driving around these city streets. Dive in deep and you will not regret any of it.

The rest of the playlist this week is great. I'm particularly stoked on that new track to the archive from David Barajas; anything new from him is cause for a celebration in my books. I'm stoked on the lovely melodic lilt of Archer Avenus' track, too, and I cannot quite, no matter how hard I try, the guitar tone on Sabbabanks' nice post-hardcore entry up in here.

Stay with me next week when I do this whole thing again. And don't forget to thank Smallbox on your way out; they help make this thing possible every week!
