Have you found yourself rudderless and searching for brussels sprouts ahead of this upcoming holiday? Wandering aimlessley among the frozen food, hoping there's one package left of spinach that you can whip up into a warming, filling dip come Saturday morning? If so, then, like I predicted, you're feeling just like I was after my trip to the grocery at 10pm last night. You're feeling mitigated. You're feeling like maybe this Thursday you might not be hungry yet, even though you've fasted since Sunday and that ought to be how calories work.
What am I saying? It's almost the holidays, of course, and we could all use a moment or two to breathe. That's what this playlist is about. It's about breathing deep and tasting the air (even if it's sticky with flour-aisle body sweat). Take a little space for yourself as your breathe. Think about the gentle lilt of John Davey introducing you to this soft-as-silk playlist (and, becuase you love me as much as you love yourself and your family, revisit my review of his excellent Living is Trying LP). Follow him as he opens the door for the electronic hinterlands of Kaiton Slusher and Kids in Rain. Let the sounds drift you along before descending back in the stuffed-up squeeze of Skin Conditions' "Head Cold" (from Get Well Soon, the very first album I ever reviewed here).
Eat as much as you want this week. Try to be nice and get some rest. Come back next week and I'll have more songs.
Thanks, as ever, to Smallbox for helping to make these playlists happen every week! And, the humbest of shout outs to my four-year-old newphew Lincoln for providing the painting that formed the basis of this week's art.
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
