Greetings MFT Community!
I am beyond thrilled to announce that I will be stepping in as the new Executive Director for Musical Family Tree – an announcement I know many of you have been eagerly awaiting. I have officially begun this role part-time and am absolutely overjoyed to have the opportunity to take an active role in supporting the well-being of Indiana musicians and help sustain a creative, productive and vibrant music scene.
While I have met many of you at shows or events around Indianapolis, I am likely a new name for many of you so I’ll say a bit about myself. I’ve been a Hoosier for about 7 years, first as a music student at IU then managing a drum museum, Rhythm! Discovery Center, here in Indy. In this role I discovered a deep passion for creating inspiring, participatory music experiences and interpreting the stories of musicians and their legacy. This and falling in love with the intensely creative and underrated music scenes in Indiana inspired me to apply for this position at MFT.
Now being the Executive Director, I am absolutely committed to the continued cultivation of the deep identity MFT has helped foster within our diverse and inclusive artist community; one that nurtures creative freedom and strengthens the broader network of Indiana musicians. Musical Family Tree and all of its supporters have done an incredible job of providing meaningful and unique opportunities for musicians through programs like Chreece, EP in a Weekend, Indy CD & Vinyl monthly shows, and Music Video in a Day, just to name a few. I plan to continue building upon these amazing projects while also exploring new ways to support new and upcoming artists, provide financial and educational resources for musicians, and champion local music as an economic driver and asset to the larger Indiana community.
Already in the first few weeks of my involvement, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many local musicians and community leaders to discuss potential programs and define MFT’s role in the Indiana music and arts scene and state as a whole. I would love to have the opportunity to do so with each of you as well. As a part of the community that MFT is dedicated to support, everyone’s perspectives and ideas are vitally important in determining how we can best continue to serve local artists and our incredible state. I invite all of you to email me at erin@musicalfamilytree.com to introduce yourself, let me know what music projects you’re working on, discuss your thoughts on the Indy music scene, and/or talk about how you are or want to be involved with MFT. This is a very exciting time for us; we are beginning Chreece 2 planning and partnering with Fountain Square Music Festival, and we will need your help! Contact me to see how you can be a part of it.
Thank you all! I can’t tell you how excited I am for this new journey with Musical Family Tree. Please come up and say hello when you see me at shows!
All the Best,
Erin
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
