Video: Hinx Jones' "Painted"

You could mutter the phone book over a Lonegevity (a.k.a., Sean Stuart) beat and I'd be down. Whether in Hinx Jones, through the Beats & Breakfast project, on his own, or in a litany of other projects, the guy has a mastery of mastering, an attention to detail, and a manner of lunging in to swing that comes knocking in a way that's only his. These beats are so good, you'd be forgiven for thinking they're the only thing he does with his time. You'd be forgiven, but you'd also be wrong, because the guy is busy.

The latest entrant into his hall of busyness is No Cosign Records, a label whose mission isn't to "create" artists, but to "nurture" them while chasing down a singular genre: "dopeness." Back in September, the label dropped a bottomless sampler featuring the likes of Bangers By One, Gritts, Maja 7th, and more; hear it here. That's not what I clicked publish to talk about, though.

So, returning to the beats, and to finally mention the video I dropped in up top: Hinx Jones, Stuart's collaboration with Gritts, just dropped a new LP called Soul Hop via No Cosign. It's their third album as Hinx Jones since 2010, and it's in with a positive message, posted up on "thoughts around bettering oneself." The video and lyrics of "Painted" up top bear that out, with Lonegevity and Gritts, joined on this track by Skittz, lay out an earnest but never cheesy message while traipsing art around a park.

If this one's got you piqued, then you're in luck, because MFT is happy to have the whole LP streaming right here in our very archive. Listen to it in the player above. In addition to Lonegevity, Gritts, and Skittz, it's got a whole cast of familiar faces from the local hip-hop scene including Sirius Blvck and Pope Adrian Bless. Lean in to it, and be sure to grab it straight from the source by clicking here
