A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of posting up in Indy CD & Vinyl and recording the sounds made by two all-around solid dudes. Dude number one was Rob Funkhouser, number two was John Flannelly. They are the often-collaborating pair of experimental musicians in Indianapolis who I've seen play most and in the most diverse of circumstances. Neither of them are content to sit with one rig and ride it out forever. Instead they're always swapping pieces, trying out new things. On this occasion, MFT's monthly in-store at Indy CD & Vinyl, Flannelly was ringing a whole world of weird no-input sounds from a mere triple pile of delay pedals, and Funkhouser was charting chiming highs and hunking bass with a computer-based rig my feeble mind could hardly hope to comprehend.
Today I have the pleasure of posting the recordings I made on that fateful day. Both Funkhouser and Flannelly are working on new recordings, and as I understand it, each of their sets contains hints of what they're working on. I won't say any more for fear of spoilers, but know that you're getting a pretty exclusive taste of what's on the horizon for both of them.
Play these recordings loud please. Play them so your neighbor hears them and calls the cops to complain and then the cops come and are like, "No, it's all good, Indianapolis' experimental music scene is thriving and we're not about to shut anything related to it down." I promise that's exactly what will happen.
If you're looking for more things to blast, you can't go wrong digging through our archive of recordings from past in-stores, which includes the likes of Vollmar, Teen Brigade, Heather French Henry, and way more! Check them all out here.
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
