Nostalgia is weakness living the body. This is an adage I just made up in order to circumvent talking about the fact that I've now been making these playlists for a year. Gosh. Here's a link to the first one. Things were so different then.
Anyhow, today's the last of the Mellow Mondays on Monument Circle, so if you haven't made it out all season, you should make a point to see my man Moose (DMA up in the playlist) pop up with all his drum machines and play as Sedcairn Archives. Don't worry, if you're not off work in time, you can catch him at State Street Pub a little later on with Lazy and BigColour.
Maybe Tuesday at the Bishop is more your speed. Cool, sounds good to me. Catch The Tourniquets, !mindparade, and Duck Trash at 8pm, then. One time I played with Duck Trash in a basement that was flooding and she gave me a copy of all of her records up to that point for free. It was cool and her set was awesome. This has been an anecdote.
Friday night's a double feature with options in Bloomington or Indy. At the White Rabbit you can peep Memory Foam (represented in the playlist by Ben Bernthal's older project Accordions), Scanlines, Jessica Albatross, and Adam Kuhn. In Bloomington there's Thyrsus & Lyre, The Underhills, Nagasaki Dirt, Jeron Braxton, and Cancuners at the Velvet Onion (a house venue). Literally every time I mention more than one event on a single day I want to reference the song "Free Will" by Rush, but I'm fairly certain in the whole year I've been doing this playlist, I haven't done it, which is cool. I guess I just blew it, but whatever, it's a special occasion.
FINALLY: on Sunday, Wet Heave and the Cowboys will support the touring Mooner at the Root Cellar. Since I'm feeling wistful, I'll tell you that I have a lot of good memories of playing shows at the Root Cellar except for the one time that I tripped and almost chipped a tooth on the two stairs that lead up to the bathroom. It was my fault and my teeth are fine, but I try not to think of that very often, and instead focus on the positives, like that time my friend drunkenly rode around on the back of a bass player in a hardcore band that was playing. That was good.
Thanks to Smallbox for helping to continue making these playlists happen.
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
