Wow. Number 51? We're getting awfully close to a year's worth of playlists. I was trying to play it cool, but never in my life have I been able to play it cool. "Don't think about it," I tell myself, as my mind races ever faster in circles.
ANYWAY.
Track number one on this playlist is from Instrument of Legend, a little collaborative effort from Kation Slusher and Jason Barlow Smith, and there's two things at work with that selection. First off, my dude Kaiton will be blowing up Monument Circle today at 6pm as part of Listen Hear's ongoing Mellow Mondays series. He'll be playing with Levi Villines. If you like what you hear, you can follow the tangent of the second bit of connective tissue in this playlist toward Recordings 2007-2010, a tape just put out by our pals at Holy Infinite Freedom Revival, collecting sounds made by the duo over that three year period.
Next up, Tuesday night at the Melody Inn, Digital Dots and Eliot Bigger will open up for Psychic Heat (a band featuring Kliph Spurlock, formerly of the Flaming Lips). The Melody Inn is pretty close to my house, so you can even come visit after the show if you want. I'll probably be up!
If the hot fire stylings of Waka Flocka Flame are more your speed, however, then you might be better off heading down the Emerson where you can see Sir Flame after a delightful opening entree of local wonder kids like Bivienni and the Ghost Gun Summer. That's on Tuesday night, too.
I doubled up Tuesday listings, so I may as well do the same for Thursday. At State Street Pub The Gooch Palms, Mr. Clit & the Pink Cigarettes, Louie Louie, and The Holy Sheets will take over starting at 9pm. And heck, if you play your cards right, you can just head over there after seeing Ensemble Amp play Terry Riley's In C on Monument Circle. Ensemble Amp features a whole array of familiar musical faces from around the city--you can grab the full list of particpants in the Facebook event. I threw in Jessica Albatross and Consumers because both group feature performers who will be there. The added bonus is that Conumers were actually a one time band that contributed to MFT's ongoing EP in a Weekend Series. There are added bonuses everywhere.
Don't miss the last two tracks on the mix either: the first is from Bybye, who have a brand new full length coming out at the end of this month, and the second is some sick freakign death metal from Fort Wayne's Straight the Guillotine.
Thanks, as ever, to Smallbox, for making these weekly playlists possible!
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
