My name is Wes DeBoy and I am a recording engineer/producer working out of Indianapolis, IN. I love sounds and will work with any genre. I place an emphasis on recording real instruments, but am not against polishing a performance. If a vocal needs tuned or a drum track needs adjusted, I can easily fix these issues for you. In other words, I will do whatever is necessary to make your project sound the way you want it to. However, I do not go into a project expecting to replace your drums with samples and process your guitars with emulators. Instead, I place focus on the pre-production stage of your recording in order to determine how to achieve the desired sounds for your project--helping you make a record that you can be proud of. Through this process, I intend to give you a sound that is unique to your band and a recording experience that will improve each member as a musician. Anyone can replace your sounds with pre-recorded samples to make you sound "commercial." Isn't it time you believe enough in yourself to create a recording that actually represents you as an artist?
Although it is important for you to be confident in your work, you should also be open minded when it comes to adjusting your parts, tones, and arrangements in the studio. I don't believe the studio is a place for any band member to have an ego. Remember, recording is about making the song come together as a whole, not about individual musicians trying to one-up one another (save that for your shows). Each member's parts should compliment one another, not distract from the song. It is my goal to help you recognize these conflicts during the recording process and work out ways around them.
I hold a high standard for the artists who I work with and do not like to cut corners. I am committed to achieving a quality product for each artist I work with, no matter what their musical background might be. With that said, I expect the same amount of commitment from the artists I work with. I do not expect every musician I work with to be a virtuoso (sometimes the member with the least musical knowledge has the best ideas). I simply expect each musician to commit to playing their parts right, whether it takes 15 minutes or 3 hours to do so. If you are looking to cut corners in order to make your project more affordable, I urge you to consider downsizing your project and recording less songs rather than compromising the integrity of the entire project. Why not record 3 great sounding songs instead of 5 average sounding songs?
Your music is my career, and I want both of us to be successful at what we do.
