The Cigarettes fused their high-school geek visions of dada and beat literature with punk energy, the Ralph Records catalog, an obvious love for pre-punk icons like Eno and Beefheart, and the fumes of earlier art-damaged Midwestern bands like MX-80, ...  read more

  • Linda Manus and I played in at least two gigs. I was onstage on a flatbed truck with the band in a shopping mall parking lot,and once at the Bluebird Cafe as Elmer Nemo playing the jaw harp and demonstrating my musical incompetence. Linda played more often contributing electric goddess vocals. Several members of the band appeared in my street theater events. The troupe was called Waggo Makes Connexxions or Nightmooner Switch. Timothy notably was one of the progenitors of the many performances I constructed and directed. Michael, Emily, and Gdon were also artistic collaborators offstage influencing a lot of the strangeness that made it into the public eye. Performances were at the Monroe County Library, the vacant lot where the Earth Kitchen once was (next to Bloomingfoods), Dunn Meadow, and random sidewalk locations. - Seth@VisionaryLeadership.com
