It all started in 2012 when Chris Kupersmith assembled an all-star group of friends/musicians for a surprise tribute to Kenny Childers on his 40th Birthday. Almost a year later, Nine Different Kinds of Gone is available in a beautiful double-vinyl edition that serves as a physical (and audio) monument to one of Indiana's most respected modern musicians.

Childers is largely known as the frontman of Gentleman Caller, and for his earlier work in Stranded at the Drive-In, The Mysteries of Life, Old Flames and several other noteworthy projects. He's a treasured songwriter with a voice that perfectly captures life's wide and volatile range of emotions. Nine Different Kinds of Gone is a testament to his influence and staying power as an artist; it features some of the best musicians in the state leaving their mark on an already strong body of work. 

The album was mastered by Mike Bridavsky at Russian Recording, and it was posted as a free download on bandcamp in April 2012. Since then, MFT ran a kickstarter campaign to fund the vinyl release. The songs were re-mastered for vinyl by Mahan Kalpa Singh at Mahern Audio, and the records were pressed with the assistance of Joyful Noise Recordings. The artwork was printed by In Case of Emergency Press in Bloomington.
