  • Musical Suicide live at Modern Times is a Ra Bob Recording. Thanks MFT for dropping my credit line... again. Since I actually made the recording, I suppose I should fill in the missing information. The show was the first week of July 1984 -- just before the 4th of July. Bands that also played tat Modern Times that day were Dandelion Abortion, Killing Children and Faction (from California). Paul Mahern did the live mix for all the bands in the store. The show originally was to be a party in the backyard of "Lyle's" house in Indy. Cops came after a band played that was called "Lame." Shut down all the music. Watched Paul Mahern organize everybody, pick up the whole show and moved it to Modern Times in the middle of the show. AWESOME!!!

Recording was made with the only available cassette tape and an Emerson jam box borrowed from Modern Times (Everybody cool, happy to lend and all bands happy to have it recorded). For limiters, I put five pieces of masking tape over each built in condensor mic on the jam box. Then I buried the jam box under a pile of leather coats from all the folks in the show.

Musical Suicide's live performance of Ben Shipman's song, "No Spoons," at Modern Times is the only known recording of the song by Musical Suicide.

THIS LIVE RECORDING TRANSFERRED BY RA BOB TO DIGITAL REALM IN MEMORY OF BEN SHIPMAN, R.I.P. Post-production by Ra Bob 2008 thru Langevin DVC, ELOP, BBE 882i and Manley Variable mu compressor.

cc: digital copies of all live Musical Suicide recordings to Bill Igerent.

Also on the master cassette from that show are good live recordings of Dandelion Abortion and Faction. Not yet brought into the digital realm (as of June 2010). Wanna hear those too? Hold your breath, and say "no pay and not even a credit line in MFT?" Exhale and ask "Why should I?"

  • Finally remembered what RBA stood for on my shirt. Red Blooded American. And it wasn't meant to be ironic.

  • I loved this band!! War is Bad! I play it for my kids all the time-still got the record I bought at Ricky's Canteena.

  • Hey! Tim here. I put the page up. Just added the album and the live stuff the other day after finally getting access. I've got some practice tapes I want to figure out how to transfer to disk and I think I have our WAIF show somewhere in MP3 form. It includes our cover of the Anti-Nowhere League song 'Woman'.

  • That Rickenbacher Ben is playing once was mine - who put this page up?
